The treatment starts with a protective solution applied to your natural nails, which helps the extensions last longer and protects your nails. Acrylic nails are made by mixing a special powder with a special liquid. They are very different from gel nails: they are well suited to fragile, weak nails, are not quite as natural-looking as gel, but are very strong and long-lasting and can be made in any length. The product has a strong smell during application. Acrylic nails are hard to break, and polish applied over them keeps its look for a long time.

The gel does not dry on its own; it is cured under a special lamp. It is applied over your natural nail, filling and evening out thin or uneven areas for a smooth, aesthetic look.
Gel nails can be worn comfortably for up to about a month. They are thinner than acrylic nails and are the more popular choice, for both fingernails and toenails.
Dipping is similar to acrylic, but it has no strong smell and gives the nails a glossy finish.

Nails built with forms and gel are usually called gel nails, while nails lengthened with tips are called extensions. In practice both are made with gel and look and last much the same, so both are commonly referred to as nail extensions.
